Note: Antennas should be perpendicular to drone, for best reception (Straight up & even pointing to the sky when flying far away, flat to ground if drone is flying directly above).  Upgrading the dBi does naturally increase the range but method of a more focused signal, but also makes the antenna more directional.  You’ll need to ensure proper antenna configuration at all times during flight, for optimal reception and to benefit from the increased natural gain.  See photo below, depicting dBi gain and antenna position.
